Using the correct material to pack and store food is as important as eating the right food at the right time. Now that you are ensuring you eat home cooked food at right intervals, it’s obvious that you need be carrying food with you. The medium/ material of the container/ packaging you choose carry your food in is important because it comes in contact with the food itself.
Ponder on the following points before you make your choice:
- When we use plastic containers for packing food, infinitesimal bits of plastic get into our food from containers. The process is called “leaching” or “migration.” This has known to display potential health risks from bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in food packaging, has many concerned. BPA is known for its ability to disrupt the functions of hormones -especially estrogen.
- Phthalates are a group of chemical “plasticizers” that are used in a huge variety of consumer products. Like BPA, phthalates disrupt hormones — in this case, testosterone.
- We see the increasing use of plastics in cities for take away and hot beverages. There is enough research confirming link between kidney and throat ailments, cancer, infertility and people eating hot food items carried in plastic bags or boxes
Aluminum is another culprit like plastic.
- It accumulates in brain
- It competes with calcium absorption, weakening the bones.
- Regular use of aluminum pots, containers, packaging is linked to Alzheimer’s disease
Therefore use stainless steel or glass ware to pack and store your food. They come in all shapes and sizes to suit your needs. If you do use plastic boxes for kids, replace with steel or use butter paper sheets ( not aluminum foil) to wrap the food before packing directly in plastic box.
Eat clean, right from where you procure food to how you carry your food.
